About Dr Jur Nikolaos Lyberis Law Office

Dr Nikolaos Lyberis is an experienced attorney-at-law admitted at the Pan-Cypriot Bar Association in Nicosia, Cyprus (ΠΔΣ) since 2008. He is practicing intellectual property law in prosecution and litigation matters before the Cypriot Companies Registrar and Official Receiver and the competent courts in Cyprus, as well as at the EUIPO and WIPO. In this respect he manages IPR portfolios worldwide.

He is also admitted at the Athens Bar Association (ΔΣΑ) since 1984 and is also litigating before the Greek Supreme Courts for civil and administrative matters.

Nikolaos represents prestigious clients from Cyprus, Greece, EU and third countries in trademark, patent and other IP rights conflicts from all branches of industry and commerce, such as pharma, cosmetics, consumer goods, automobile manufacturing, food and beverages, engineering, and others. He is also teaching IP law at the Law School of the European University Cyprus (EUC).

He is fluent in English and German and has adequate knowledge of French. Greek is his native language.

SCIENTIFIC BACKGROUND

Nikolaos graduated with distinction from the Athens University Law School (1984), worked as a Researcher at the European Law Section of the Law School of the Democritus University Thrace (1985-1987) and holds a PhD in European Economic Law of the Law School of Hamburg University (2000). In the years 1989-1992 he worked as an attorney in Germany, being a member of the Hanseatic Bar Association. Nikolaos has served as Legal Advisor (Referent) at the Max-Planck-Institute for Foreign and Private International Law in Hamburg, Germany, delivering legal advices to inquiring German courts (1992-2003). He is currently lecturing IP law at the European University Cyprus (EUC), focusing on Cypriot, European and International Patent and Trademarks Law.

INSTITUTIONAL & RESEARCH WORK

Nikolaos is a member of numerous international associations focusing on IP law. He has served as a Council Member of ECTA for the Greek constituency and as member of various committees. He is also Secretary of the Hellenic Group of AIPPI. In the years 2005-2010 he worked as an active member of the Legislative Committee for the Greek Trademarks Law 4072/2012, resp. Law 4155/2013 for the transposition of the Intellectual Property Enforcement Directive EC 48/2004 in the Greek legal order. In 2014-2015 he was appointed as a member of the Board of Directors of the Greek Patent Office (OBI). In 2020 he was selected as an ordinary member of the Administrative Board of the Hellenic Academy for Intellectual Property, a Department of the Greek Patent Office (OBI).

Publications

He is the author of various contributions inter alia on aspects of European Trademarks Law, Unfair Competition, Patent and Design Law. He has conducted seminars on trademarks case law in the frame of educational programs for Examiners of the Greek Trademarks Office.
